My Interior Design Journey: From Fighting Crime to Interior Design by Jennifer Quinn Interiors

jenniferquinninter

Hello and welcome to my website and very first blog post! I'm Jen, a Residential Interior Designer and Mural Artist based in Preston, Lancashire.

I've always been passionate about Interior Design—I'm literally obsessed! From a young age, it was all I wanted to do! I would tell everyone, "I'm going to be an Interior Designer when I'm older," and now, here we are! My career journey wasn't quite as straightforward as that though, and it took me in a very different direction over the years (I'll explain that shortly). However, my passion and interest for interiors and home decor have always been there.

From Fighting Crime to Interior Design: My Interior Design Journey & How it all began

I grew up in a small town called Flint in North Wales. My passion for nature has always been strong, and growing up in such a rural area has certainly fueled my love for colourful, nature-inspired interiors. As a child, I was really creative, always drawing, colouring, and painting—I loved it all! Creativity is definitely a family trait, and I enjoyed watching my mum beautifully style our home and creating designs that impressed my friends. We frequently visited home decor and craft shops, which sparked my interest in interior design. Understanding how interiors can affect people's emotions from a young age has stayed with me into adulthood and now I'm so grateful to be able to share and help others with my passion to create colourful, feel-good homes.

For the past 14 years, I've worked as a Forensic Scientist. This explains my motto, "from fighting crime to interior design." While it seems like a completely different career path (and it is), the skills I've acquired have greatly benefited my new role as an Interior Designer. My scientific mindset is perfect for addressing challenges in your home and each requires a high level of quality and attention to detail in order to be a success.

I have a passion for research, and colour theory is just one of the many topics that inspire and influence each of my designs. I love to help people and have seen that life can have it's challenges and feel very difficult for so many. This is why I'm on a mission to spread more joy and happiness into the world.

2020 was the year I knew I needed change. I had more time to reflect and consider life options, we also expereinced a difficult time as a family when my husband was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. He's absoloutely fine now thank goodness, but it was a huge wakeup call for me. I realised that life is too short to not do what you love. Don't get me wrong! I'm so grateful to have experienced a career in forensic science. It's been incredibly rewarding and I've worked with the most amazing people. But I realised my passion for the role had changed and I needed more creativity and positivity in my life.

For the last 4 years, I've worked hard enhancing my skillset to become a successful Interior Designer. Offering a high quality and easy to follow service is a priority to me and my business. I love learning new skills and have really enjoyed putting all I've learned into action over the last year. In 2021, I completed a L3 Diploma in Professional Interior Design through the National Design Acedemy's online programme and absoloutely loved it! There's been no stopping me ever since! I then moved on to complete the IDBS (Interior Design Business School) course in 2024, which supported the successful transition into my new career.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my first blog post. My goal as your Interior Designer is to save you time, money and hassle. I want this to be an enjoyable, stress-free experience for you and your family. There's nothing I love more than helping you create a home that feels right for you - a place where you can all relax, thrive and truly enjoy spending time within. If this is the year you're planning a single room revamp or a full home renovation, please get in touch. I'd love to help you on this journey and look forward to working with you.
