Open Plan Kitchen-Diner

Project Type

Photography

Date

April 2023

This was an open plan kitchen-diner project that I completed for a client in North Wales last year. My client wanted to add more personality to the space but wasn't sure where to start. With my help, we created this beautifully relaxed, calm & inviting dining area that she now enjoys with friends & family.

The Brief:
- The client had existing furniture pieces that she wanted to keep within the space.
- There was a newly installed teal green window blind in the kitchen area so we decided to use this a starting point for the colour scheme.
- She had a lot of photos that she'd like to have on display in this area.
- Needed storage for plants and other decorative items.
- She wanted the space to feel relaxing and inviting for entertaining family & friends.
- Needed a storage solution for cleaning products.

How we did it:
- We kept the original dining table but replaced the chairs to enhance the feel and level of comfort within this area.
- The teal green wall colour was chosen to create a relaxed feel. As this section of the room is overlooking the garden, it connects beautifully with the outside space which complimented the plants and natural wooden elements used to this section of the room. Each element added was carefully considered. The rug is machine washable making it ideal for use in a dining area.

There was plenty of natural light from the French doors, so enhancing the lighting above the dining table was added to enhance the dining experience. Other lighting options were also provided for when natural light was limited.

A mirror was placed onto the wall next to the dining area to reflect natural light and make the room feel more spacious. Photo frames were sourced to proudly display my clients photos. A storage unit was sourced for behind the kitchen door which complimented the current kitchen door units, this allowed the client to have a hidden storage compartment to hide away all of her cleaning products. Curtains were added to the French doors to enhance privacy and add a touch of warmth to this space.
